SASFED is proud to welcome the South African Background Actors Guild (SABAG) as our newest member organisation.

SABAG represents and advocates for the rights, working conditions, and professional recognition of background actors and supporting artists in South Africa. The guild focuses on:

  • Fair and transparent working conditions – including hours, rates, contracts, and on-set treatment.
  • Professional standards and training – helping background actors understand industry expectations and develop their skills.
  • Advocacy and representation – giving background actors a united voice in engagements with casting agents, production companies, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Industry awareness and respect – promoting recognition of background performance as a vital and professional part of the screen value chain.

This mission aligns strongly with SASFED’s role to promote collaboration and unity between all parts of the industry – from performers and technicians to producers, writers, and guilds.

By joining SASFED, SABAG brings the voices and interests of background actors formally into the national conversation about our screen sector. This strengthens:

  • Representation of performers at all levels of production
  • Collective efforts to tackle exploitation, unfair contracts, and unsafe conditions
  • Industry-wide initiatives around transformation, skills development, and professionalisation

We look forward to working with SABAG in building a more inclusive, equitable, and collaborative South African film and television industry—one that recognises and values every contribution, including the thousands of background actors who help bring our stories to life.

Welcome to SASFED!
